Welcome to the DUG Appalachia Conference 2023

The Appalachian Basin's more than 35 Bcf/d alone has been the leading contributor to catapulting the US into the world's No. 1 natgas supplier position, taking total US production to 100 Bcf/d with some 20 Bcf/d of that going to allies abroad.

And expectations are hopeful for pipe permitting to be unleashed, eventually un-stranding the full potential of the basin's CH4 output to more than 60Bcf/d.

As that's underway, basin leaders seek to continue to upgrade their best practices in managing for price volatility, growing export capacity and green-ing their gas as consumption sources seek greater firm supply and even US economic and defense alliances are in play.

The 15th annual DUG Appalachia (formerly named DUG East) Conference, provides stakeholders with a playbook on overcoming both the tasks of today and those of decades to come.

I Want to Break Free: The Role of U.S. and Appalachia Gas in Global Markets

The Appalachian Basin has grown into the world’s greatest gas field. Between 2010 and 2019, production from the Marcellus and Utica grew from less than 2 bcf/d to 34 bcf/d - a 17 fold increase! It was enough to help satiate domestic demand and lead to a surge of LNG exports. Since then, though, growth, particularly out of the Northeast, has slowed due in large part to takeaway constraints. But, contrary to the popular narrative, the U.S. and the rest of the world will need more gas going forward. We've got the gas if only we can build the infrastructure to get it to the markets that need it.

The Massive Gas Call: LNG and the Nearly 10Bcf/d Growth, 2024-2027

New LNG export capacity from the East Coast is in discussion, while more than 9.5 Bcf/d of additional U.S. LNG export capacity is expected, bringing total capacity to some 22 Bcf/d by year-end 2027. Additional growth of nearly 6 Bcf/d to total capacity of some 28 Bcf/d is expected by year-end 2030. Where’s it all going to come from? How does Appalachia get a piece?
